Agreement to terms

By using wordcountonline.app ("WordCount," "we," "us"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. These terms work alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect and why.

The service

WordCount is a free suite of writing tools: a word counter, character counter, reading time calculator, and checkers for essays, resumes (ATS), tone, and SEO content. The instant tools run entirely in your browser and require no account. A free account unlocks two optional features, AI Deep Analysis and saved analysis history, described in the Privacy Policy.

We provide the tools "as is." Estimates like word-to-page conversions, reading time, and AI-generated feedback are guidance, not guarantees, always use your own judgment (or your institution's specific formatting requirements) for anything that matters, like a graded assignment or a job application.

Your account

If you create an account, you're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for any activity under your account. You must provide accurate information when signing up. You can delete your account at any time by emailing us; see the Privacy Policy for how account deletion works.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. The tools themselves are general-audience and not directed at children.

WordCount Pro

What it is. WordCount Pro is a one-time purchase ($6.99 at time of writing) that removes ads and unlocks writing history and other Pro features on the device where you activate your license key. It is not a subscription, there's nothing to cancel, and it doesn't expire.

How purchases work. Pro purchases are processed by Gumroad, our payment provider. We never see or store your payment card details, Gumroad handles the transaction under its own terms and privacy policy. After purchase, you'll receive a license key by email to activate Pro in the site's "Go Pro" menu.

Refunds. We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked. If you're not satisfied within 30 days of purchase, reply to your purchase confirmation email or contact us directly and we'll process a refund.

Device-based activation. Your license key can be activated on a reasonable number of your own devices. It's tied to your license key, not to an account, please don't share your key or resell access.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the tools to process content that is illegal, infringes on others' rights, or that you don't have the right to submit.
• Attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with the site's security features, rate limits, or Pro license verification.
• Scrape, reverse-engineer, or resell access to the tools or the AI Deep Analysis feature without our permission.
• Use automated systems to abuse the free tools or the AI analysis endpoint in a way that degrades service for other users.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for accounts that violate these terms.

Content you submit

You retain all rights to any text you enter into the tools. For the instant checkers, your text never leaves your browser. For AI Deep Analysis, your submitted text is sent to our server and Google's Gemini API solely to generate your report, it is not used to train models, and we don't claim any ownership over it. Third-party services

The site relies on third parties, Google (AdSense, Analytics, Fonts, Gemini API), Cloudflare (hosting and database), and Gumroad (payments), each governed by their own terms. We're not responsible for outages or issues originating from these providers, though we'll do our best to work around them.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The tools are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee the accuracy of word-to-page estimates, AI-generated feedback, SEO scores, or any other output, always verify anything used for a graded, professional, or legal purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, WordCount and Jay are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, including lost work, missed deadlines, or reliance on tool output. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the past 12 months (which, for most users, is $0).

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site or legal requirements change; the "Last updated" date above will reflect it. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the site operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, unless a mandatory local consumer-protection law gives you additional rights where you live.
